If your backflow preventer has started leaking, you have likely seen that reflected in your water bill. Backflow preventers are designed to “leak” or discharge water when they have a problem. The city or town that supplies your irrigation water also requires your backflow preventer to be inspected regularly to ensure it is functional. We can certify your backflow preventer if it is time to have that done.
Here are three signs to watch out for that you need backflow services:
- Your backflow preventer is dumping water. This is the most obvious issue. To keep your water bill from skyrocketing, the water should be shut off immediately until the problem can be assessed.
- Small drips or rivulets of water emerging. Any small amounts of water coming from different areas, not just the discharge, need to be checked and repaired if possible. The water should again be shut off before the leak to stop water loss.
- You’ve received a letter from the city of Raleigh, town of Chapel Hill, or your municipality stating you need your backflow preventer inspected. We will inspect your backflow and upload the report to make sure you stay in compliance. We are fully licensed to permit and replace the backflow preventer if that is necessary.
